Protecting your personal information is of great importance at the publishing company Verlag Österreich GmbH (“Verlag Österreich”). Verlag Österreich attaches great value to compliance with the statutory provisions on data protection. We apply modern security standards when collecting, processing and using your personal information (form of address, name, address, date of birth, email address, telephone and fax number, bank details) and of course observe the applicable provisions of data protection law, in particular the Data Protection Act 2000 - DSG 2000 and the Telecommunications Act 2003 - TKG 2003.
2. Collection, processing and use of personal information
a) When you visit our website at https://elibrary.verlagoesterreich.at, the IP address of your computer, the date and time of your visit, the names of the files you download, the volume of data transmitted, the type and operating system of the browser you use as well as the requesting domain are saved temporarily in a log file. It is necessary to save this so-called server log data for technical reasons and to ensure the security of the system. This data will be assessed anonymously for statistical purposes and to improve the quality of our internet presence. No links are made between server log data and personal information of certain natural persons.
b) You can make use of customised functions if you register with https://elibrary.verlagoesterreich.at, e.g. bookmarks. By registering with elibrary.verlagoestereich.at you are consenting to allow us to use and utilise the personal data you supply (first name, surname, email address) for proper fulfilment of the contract and, where appropriate, for promotional purposes and billing. Your data will be stored and processed for customer service purposes and will only be shared with third parties where this is necessary to fulfil the contract.
c) You can order our email newsletter using this link on our website https://www.verlagoesterreich.at.
If you so wish, we can send you information about our products and services (newsletter service). We use the so-called double opt-in procedure for registration for our newsletter. This means that we send you a confirmation email to the email address you have provided in which we request that you confirm that you would like to receive the newsletter. If you do not provide this confirmation within 24 hours, your registration will be automatically deleted. If you confirm that you would like to receive the newsletter, we will store your email address until you unsubscribe from the newsletter. Storing your email address serves the sole purpose of being able to send you the newsletter. Furthermore, we save your IP addresses upon registration and confirmation as well as the times at which they occurred in order to prevent your personal information being misused.
Cookies are small text files with an ID number which are stored locally on your computer’s hard drive and held for repeat visits to a website. We only use our own cookies in the form of session IDs. These cookies allow our server to recognise your computer if it makes repeat visits to our website during a single session. No personal information is stored in the cookies.
If you click on the checkbox marked “Stay logged in” when you log in, a cookie will be created which will not be deleted when you close your browser.
4. Use of analysis tools
a) We use Google Analytics to statistically analyse user activity on our website. This analysis is done anonymously.
This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google Inc. ("Google"). Google Analytics uses so-called cookies, which are text files that are stored on your computer to analyse your use of the website. In general, the information the cookies gather about your use of this website is transmitted to and stored on a Google server in the USA. If the IP-anonymisation on this website is activated, Google will shorten your IP address within the states of the European Union or the European Economic Area before it is transmitted. The full IP address will only be transmitted to a Google server in the USA and shortened there in exceptional cases. Google uses this information at the request of the operator of this website to evaluate your use of the website, to compile reports on website activity and to provide further website and internet-associated services to the website operator. The IP address which is transmitted from your browser as part of Google Analytics will not be combined with other data of Google. You can stop cookies being stored using the appropriate setting on your browser software; however, please note that you may not then be able to fully utilise all the functions on our website. You can also prevent the data (including your IP address) related to your use of a website generated by the cookie from being recorded on Google or the processing of this data by Google by downloading and installing the browser plug-in available under the following link: http://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=de
In view of the discussion about the use of analytics tools with full IP addresses, please note that this website uses Google Analytics with the extension _anonymizeIp(); therefore IP addresses are only processed in shortened form to prevent them being traceable to an individual user.
We take all necessary technical and organisational security measures to protect your personal data against accidental or intentional manipulation, loss, destruction or access by unauthorised persons. Our data processing and security measures are subject to continuing improvement to conform to the latest technological developments.
Our employees and service providers are of course bound by data secrecy obligations pursuant to section 15 DSG 2000.
6. Storage and forwarding of personal information to third parties
Your personal information is of course only stored for as long as this is required to render our services or as far as this is required by law.
It is only forwarded and transmitted to third parties if this is absolutely necessary for controlling the communication process and fulfilling the contract. Data which is forwarded for this reason may only be used by our service providers to fulfil the tasks we set them within the scope of an agreement on data processing pursuant to section 10 DSG 2000. Data may not be used in any other way.
7. Information and revocation of permission
We are happy to provide you with information on any of your personal data which we have stored at any time, free of charge and without delay. Furthermore, you are entitled to revoke your permission for your data to be stored at any time with effect for the future.
Under certain circumstances, Verlag Österreich may refuse access to the data collected about you, for example if confidential business information is also affected, or if giving you access would infringe on the rights of a third party.
You can contact us on these matters in writing, either by sending an email to office[at]verlagoesterreich.at or by post to the address Verlag Österreich GmbH, Bäckerstraße 1, 1010 Wien.
You can get your personal information updated, corrected or deleted by contacting our customer service. If you no longer wish to receive our newsletter, each edition includes a link which you can use to unsubscribe.
